Happy Fridays everyone .. and for many of you in the US a holiday :)
Well our long hot dry summer didn't last long .. lol .. today not only very much cooler .. but a grey day with that drenching fine rain which was teeming down at 7 this am and hasn't stopped since .. Looks like it's set for the same for the next several days according to the forecasters, so I'm glad my brother and sister-in-law came up for last weekend and not this!
A good few years ago I popped out to Fla for the first two weeks in July to meet up with two Canadian friends for some sun, pool and shopping :) On the bus from hotel to airport in Orlando after an overnight stop there were a group of US businessmen all homeward bound for the 4th July celebrations. Chatting, they identified me as English (wonder what was their first clue .. lol) and one rather sweetly asked "And do you have a fourth of July in England?" .. lol
"We have one every year" I replied .. "It comes immediately after the third and before the fifth .. If you mean do we celebrate it .. why would we? Biggest loss a monarchy ever managed to achieve!" .. at which point the penny dropped and they burst out laughing ..
Well .. today I'm pretty glad we don't celebrate the 4th July .. because any barbecues would need to be endured in galoshes and under umbrellas!! .. lol
Still .. good luck with all the preparations for a celebration :)) Seize the bunting and hoist the flags!!
Caryl .. somewhat chilly today
