This is a topic to recommend good movies that you have seen lately, either in the theater or on VHS/DVD. I'll start:
Last week I went to the video store to get School of Rock, it was out of stock so I got High Fidelity instead. I highly recommend it- it's a bit of a dark love story/comedy. It features John Cusack (nearly always a sign of a great, slightly off beat film) and the man, Jack Black. There are some really classic lines, most of them coming from Cusack or Black. I loved it, it went completely over my husbands head- but, he is not a music fan so he missed much of the humor. Go check it out!
Yesterday I finally did get School of Rock, it was okay. It was a lot less edgy than High Fidelity, much more mainstream. But, you can never go wrong with Jack Black, and he was at full speed in this movie. Recommended as light fare, not too much heavy thinking.
I have two more DVD's waiting to be watched, Lost in Translation (probably tonight) and Best in Show. I read in an interview that Meat loved Best in Show, otherwise I probably would have never gotten it. I'll let you guys know how it is.
Ok everyone- what are your suggestions?
Sherrie

Think the last DVD i saw was Pirates Of The Carribean. Was actually quite pleasently surprised - i liked it. Hadn't really fancied it, but it turned out to be quite good.
One before that was Bruce Almighty - loved it!!!! Found it so so funny - made me laugh out loud

Sherrie 87, just a comment about "Best in Show", if you've ever been around or involved in the dog show world, you may find this movie funny in a sarcastic way... as it emphizes the eccentricities and underhanded goings on of the dog show world... J.

I finally got around to Lost in Translation, it was really good. It was one of those movies that really sticks with you, I saw it two days ago and I just kept thinking about some of the scenes even today. It has elements of both a love story and a tragic comedy, but I don't think I would classify it as either. Bill Murray was brilliant, he can convey so much pain and longing with a look or an eyebrow. I found the end a bit frustrating, not because of what happens but because of how it is conveyed. I won't reveal the plot, but basically the viewer is expecting a very deep and heartfelt line to be delivered in the final scene, and the line is whispered in the other actor's ear. No amount of rewinding and blaring the volume could reveal what was said. I suppose the purpose of this is to allow the viewer work a bit, to sort of decide for themselves how things are wrapped up. This film is highly recommended, and the DVD extras about the making of the film are fascinating too.
Best of Show is next in my DVD pile, but it is due back at the library on Friday, so I may not get to it. We'll see what's next....

I watched "School of Rock" yesterday. Awesome if you love rock music! Not what I would call a funny movie in the humourous sense but a fun movie about people appreciating "rock music" and working to make their dreams come true. I give it a 7/10. J.
