Today has been TERRIBLE weatherwise ... cold, grey and poured non-stop all day. I'd already arranged to go out for lunch with friends and then take them to a really good garden centre .. but trying to look at plants and pick out pots was like battling in the Somme! We had fun .. but it would have been so much nicer on a sunny day ..
I recently joined something called Freecycle .. It's a national scheme, but you join your local area. Basically you join a mailing list and if you want to get shot of something, usable but no longer required, you send a mail to the list saying "ON OFFER .. a ....." giving details of the item .. and interested people reply if they'd like the item .. Similarly if you're on the lookout for something you send a "WANTED ... " email to the list. It's a great idea because you get rid of something you no longer want without having to take it to the tip .. the person comes and collects it .. job done :) Great recycling initiative, with no money changing hands. I was just about to put a treadmill on offer .. one I've had for years but no longer use as it's a mechanical one and so too hard on my knees :) But it's big and heavy and I dreaded disposing of it, so it's just been taking up space in the bedroom. Then as I was writing the email a "WANTED" mail popped into my inbox .. and now a young lad is coming next weekend to collect it :) He's thrilled and I'll be glad to see the back of it :) You see everything exchanging .. from washing machines to fencing panels to spare paint, baby clothes, furniture, printers, TVs etc etc .. Brilliant idea :)) The list is set up so that replies to the initiatng emails just go direct to the original sender, so you don't get inundated with back and forths about the exchange.
So .. the weekend beckons .. hope the weather is better than today!
And it's all right for some .. enjoying pretty constant Californian sunshine .. and complaining of the terrible cold if the temp drops to 62! .. lol

What a great idea Caryl, at least it goes to someone who needs it and will appreciate it rather than throwing it out. That's funny that guy posting he wanted a treadmill just as you were about to put yours on there, that was good timing. Carole
Yes .. it works very well .. masses of stguff changing hands that would otherwise be needlessly scrapped and that you'd have to save up to acquire. I'm so pleased that my treadmill will be going to someone who'll use it.
A friend who wants to turn the back yard they have into a nicer space was saying she wanted to get some gravel but couldn't afford it right now .. and today an email popped in offering half a ton of gravel .. so I was on the phone to her at once saying .. email the bloke right away .. Even better, it's right on her doorstep :)
